HARWICH RNLI volunteers were paged to assist police following reports a man was last seen walking into water.

Holbrook Coastguard Rescue Team was called at 12.50pm today (Thursday, October 22) and tasked with Felixstowe Coastguard Rescue Team to assist Suffolk Police in the search for a man seen walking into the water in the Languard point area of Felixstowe.

The Holbrook Team performed a shoreline search at Shotley Point in case the casualty had come ashore on the opposite side of the river.

Meanwhile, the lifeboat from RNLI Harwich Lifeboat Station and Coastguard Helicopter 163 searched the harbour area.

A Holbrook Coastguard Rescue Team spokesman said: "While the teams were out searching we got word from the police that they had located a man matching the description of the missing person in the Languard area.

"All teams were then stood down.

"In the event of an emergency along our coastline or estuaries or in mud call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
