FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze at Brighton Marina.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue was called at 9.45pm to deal with a fire in accommodation.

The fire is reported to be on the first floor of a building in Eastern Concourse.

A resident living opposite the blaze, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I saw someone being stretchered away, they were yelling and they seemed to be in a lot of pain.

“When I first saw the fire – at about 9.51pm – it must have been at its worst, the fire was engulfing the entire unit.

The Argus:

“It looks like the fire service has now got it under control.

"It looks like they’re knocking on people’s homes to make sure everyone’s out.

“At the moment, I can only see smoke.”

The service is asking people to avoid the area while six engines deal with the fire.

More as we have it.
