RESIDENTS rallied together to provide sandbanks for a restaurant which faced being “washed away” by flooding.

The River Stour burst its banks in Dedham earlier this week, leaving fields submerged by water.

The Boathouse Restaurant, situated on the river, put a call out on social media asking the community for sandbags to keep the water at bay.

It said: “What a year 2020 has been. Covid-19 has taken over, closure of businesses, and now we are about to be washed away.

“Anyone who would like to donate any sandbags would be gratefully appreciated.”

Following the plea, villagers dropped off sandbags to the restaurant to help prevent water seeping inside the building.
