A CRANE lifted a school bus over a classroom to a secure location so it can be renovated into a library space for students.
The double-decker bus, which was vandalised by thugs several months ago, belongs to Mayflower Primary School, in Dovercourt.
Following the vandalism, two pupils started a JustGiving page and raised an impressive £2,000 to cover the cost of repairs to the bus.
Karen Wright, the deputy headteacher, decided the bus needed a safer location to reduce the risk of any further vandalism and contacted crane company Cadman’s of Colchester.
On Christmas Eve the company craned the bus into a secluded courtyard on the school grounds.
Mrs Wright said: “Having the bus repositioned in a more secure area will hopefully reduce the risk of further vandalism and will mean we can start planning the renovation work to convert it into an amazing library space for our pupils.
“It has taken over three years to get this far, since the original idea sprang to mind, but once the project is complete, it will be worth it as our pupils deserve to have access to high quality books in a school library.”
She added: “I would like to thank Matt Waddingham of Cadman’s Cranes who has been instrumental in organising this and also for providing his service.
“Also, a big thank you to a generous donor for paying for the crane and matting.”
