A PILE of rubbish described as a “stinking eyesore” is to finally be cleared from near Dovercourt train station.

The awful mess consists of a sofa, mattresses, chairs and even includes a fridge which still has food in it.

Ivan Henderson, councillor for Harwich and Kingsway Ward, shared images to his Facebook page and confirmed he has been informed, weather permitting, the mess will be cleared this week.

At long last: I have just been informed, weather permitting this stinking eyesore near Dovercourt Station should be cleared this week.

Mr Henderson explained the rubbish was dumped on a private drive off Victoria Street in Dovercourt and had been there for a few weeks, if not months.

He said: “The issue is the council can’t find reasons to remove this kind of mess when it’s on private property, it’s an extremely long process to get permission.

“However, the landlord is now co-operating at long last – it has been a stinking eyesore for far too long.

“We need a quicker process to deal with these issues, it’s simply not good enough. Not only are residents having to put up with it but visitors to the town as well.

“If there is no response then it only encourages more anti-social behaviour like this.

“If the council don’t show they’re going to care then others won’t either and the problem will spiral. We need to nip it in the bud.

“It is understood food is still in the abandoned fridge, this is not only a health hazard but if children get near and it falls on them then it could become a dangerous situation.

“The whole area around Victoria Street needs improvement. If we don’t deal with situations quicker they will escalate.

“People must report any fly-tipping they see, we need information. It’s not on as we all have to pay with our council tax to clear this up.

“If you can’t get rid of it then come to us and we will try to help you.”
