A WREATH was laid at the weekend following the death of His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The mark of respect was left by Harwich town Mayor Alan Todd at the Mayor’s Garden in Dovercourt.

He said: “During this period of public mourning and as a mark of respect, black rosettes and, where applicable, black ties will be worn by Harwich Town councillors and senior officers during council meetings or at attendance at any Civic occasion.

“The Harwich Town Council ceremonial mace will be adorned with a black bow and will remain in place when the mace is in use and on public display.

“While the mayor and mayoress’ chains of office will be decorated with black ribbon. When wearing the Mayor’s Badge only, this will be worn on a black ribbon.”

Mr Todd also confirmed all mayoral engagements will be suspended until after the funeral has taken place.

If members of the public would like to pay their respects, they are encouraged to do so at the Mayor’s Garden at the junction of Main Road, Barrack Lane and Mayflower Avenue.
