AN APPEAL has been made for details about churches and chapels closed in the area in a bid to preserve their history.
It comes as many villages and towns have seen the closure of their Methodist church or chapel.
Societal changes have resulted in many of these buildings being sold or converted, while some are tragically demolished or left derelict.
The historic Harwich – Manningtree Methodist circuit, which stretched from Harwich to Cattawade, through to Burnt Heath, the Bromleys and Beaumont, has seen many of its historic buildings now cease to function.
Of the 24 church buildings active only four are believed to remain open today.
Now an appeal has been made to save the historic buildings from being forgotten, as a record book is being created.
Anyone with pictures and/or information regarding any of the closed churches can contribute to the tribute record by contacting davidshearmur@gmail.com
