POLICE officers performed targeted patrols in an effort to crack down on speeding and anti-social vehicle use.

At the weekend, Harwich Community Policing Team carried out the patrols in response to reports of the activities in certain areas.

These locations included supermarket car parks and built up residential areas in Harwich and Dovercourt.

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

A spokesman for the police said: “Officers attended various hotspot locations where anti-social driving and riding is said to be occurring, and engaged with residents.

“Several road users were spoken to, while five drivers were caught speeding and will be receiving their notice of intending prosecution in the post.

“We are not out to target genuine car enthusiasts or petrol heads alike; we are targeting those who drive and ride in an unacceptable manner which puts other road users and pedestrians at risk of harm.

“We will continue to work with members of the community to yield more results in future deployments.”
