SPEEDY motorists were caught out by police as part of a mission to crack down on dangerous driving in the area.
Colchester’s community policing team were out keeping an eye on the roads in Dedham and Ardleigh conducting speed surveys on Wednesday.
It came after the parish councils raised concerns about resident safety in and around the roads.
The average speed detected in Lamb Corner, which has a 30mph speed limit, was 27mph. However the highest recorded speed was 36mph.
And in Long Road West, Dedham, the highest recorded speed was 42mph within the 30 limit.
A spokesman for the police said: “This builds on a deployment last week by one of our volunteer special constables who conducted enforcement checks.
“They issued five traffic offence reports to drivers who were way above the speed limit - the highest on that occasion was 52 mph.
“Please keep your speeds down, especially given the weather conditions in the past three weeks and large amounts of surface water on the roads.”
