More than half of people in Southend have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows 82,388 people had received both jabs by June 13 – 56% of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those to have received both jabs, 78,648 were aged 30 and over – 65% of the age group.

It means 3,740 people aged between 16 to 29 have received both doses.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Southend.

Across Southend, 75% of those aged 16 and over have had one jab.

Areas with the highest coverage:

1) Thorpe Bay, with 82.5% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose

2) West Leigh, 81.3%

3) Southchurch, 81.1%

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Kursaal, 62.9%

2) Southend Central, 64.9%

3) Victoria, 66.1%

Of those to have received both jabs, 77,389 were aged 30 and over – 66% of the age group.

It means 4,468 people aged between 16 to 29 have received both doses.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Basildon.

Across Basildon, 78% of those aged 16 and over have had one jab.

Areas with the highest coverage:

1) Billericay Tye Common, with 86.7% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose

2) Billericay North East, 86.3%

3) Laindon East and Lee Chapel North, 85%

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Basildon Central and Pipps Hill, 68.6%

2) Vange and Pitsea, 69.6%

3) Laindon Central, 70.3%

Across England, 25.3 million people had received a second dose of the jab by June 13 – 56% of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 23.8 million people aged 30 and over – 67% of the age group.

In total, 34.7 million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 76% of people over 16.
