TWO students from Harwich and Dovercourt High School have picked up the top two places in a schools hairdressing competition.

Lillyanne Godfrey, 16, came first, and Ruby Richardson, 15, came second in the Concept Hair Spotlight in Schools national hairdressing contest, in conjunction with Choose Hair.

The brief was to dazzle the judges by creating a ’dream prom hairstyle’.

The students created a mood board to accompany your look, demonstrating where they took their inspiration from.

They then created a prom hair look on the training head, as due to Covid restrictions it could not be done on a live model.

Mrs Rodger, the students hairdressing teacher, said: "I was extremely proud of all of the students who participated in the competition and ecstatic that two2 of our students were placed first and second "The hairdressing students have worked extremely hard throughout this academic year, despite the lockdown, it’s great to see how well they have achieved."

Both Lillyanne and Ruby received Wella hairdressing products and equipment and Kent professional hair brushes and their work is being featured all over the UK.

As competition winners, they won the school a ‘Look and learn’ training session with MacDonald Waterfall sponsored by Wella, valued at £2,500.

Ruby Richardson said: “I am very overwhelmed and excited about my win. It has definitely boosted my confidence and could open up many opportunities for me in the future.

"I couldn’t thank my teachers and Concept hair magazine and Choose Hair enough for giving me the chance to participate in this competition."

Her mum Alison added: "his has been an amazing achievement for Ruby and will definitely make her feel more confident and have more self belief.

"Since winning this award Ruby can already see this could lead to a very bright future for her in the hairdressing industry. We are extremely proud of her.”

Mrs Gardiner-Iriving, Head of Salon Studies at the school, said: "We are thrilled at our students' attainment and so grateful that all of our students will benefit from such an aspirational training session."
