A MAGICAL production is flying into a town after a world famous studio gave it the green light.

Actors and actresses at the Performing Arts Company, a branch of the Boogie Shoes Dance Academy which operates in Harwich, are learning their scripts for an extra special performance.

The budding performers will be able to put on a production of Aladdin Jr, which is a shortened version of the stage show now playing at the Prince Edward Theatre, in London’s West End.

The performance will even include a flying magical carpet as those involved get to grips exciting props and stage kit.

It comes after PAC leader Abbie Lewis applied to Disney for permission to be able to act out their own version of the famous fictional land of Agrabah.

After the successful application, rehearsals began in April and the children are now working every week ahead of the debut show on Monday, August 2.

“The young people have been magical,” Abbie said, “they have really embraced all the elements of putting on such a complex show.

“This is a very elaborate production and something that will be a lasting memory for the children. I am incredibly proud of them and really pleased to be able to bring a little Disney magic to Harwich.”

The PAC had only opened its doors twice before the country went into lockdown and the lights went out on the new group back in March 2020.

Abbie added: “The children of Harwich are a very resilient bunch and adapted well to weekly challenges being set on Saturdays and having sessions via Zoom.

“When the Government lifted restrictions and allowed children’s groups to restart I knew I had to do something that would excite the young people who attend, and also give something to the residents of the town to look forward to over summer.”

As part of the rehearsals, the children have been learning songs, dance routines and the script.

They have also had to get to grips with professional stage kit, including a magic carpet which flies, pyrotechnics, magic tricks and circus skills.

“All the children have had an incredibly difficult past 18 months with all their activities having to stop, and not seeing their friends or family,” Abbie said.

“This year, absolutely everyone needs to have something to look forward to and Aladdin Jr at the Park Pavillion is just that.”
