A TOWN’s beach took a large delivery in a bid to boost tourism ahead of a bumper staycation summer.

Manningtree beach received 80 tonnes of sand to recharge the seafront as an influx of visitors are expected to explore the town.

The works undertaken by Lawford based firm Rose Builders have now been completed and are ready for the summer season.

And now, Manningtree’s newly elected mayor, Michelle Taylor, is calling on tourists to come and enjoy the beauty the UK’s smallest geographical town has to offer.

“There’s lots going on in Manningtree, we do a lot of green action whether that be our plastic free goal, the stag beetle protection or the swift bird boxes,” she said.

“But really we are the gateway to some of the most beautiful countryside within the nation.

“We’re trying to attract people to the area all the time, it really is the perfect place for those who enjoy a walking holiday. We have the estuary, amazing wildlife and Constable Country right on our doorstep.

“You can begin your journey here or stop by on your way through and enjoy some of the cracking restaurants and pubs with a meal and a drink.

“I think with lockdown periods more and more people have discovered fabulous walks in our area they didn’t know existed, people need to make the most of it and enjoy the beautiful countryside and friendly locals.

“There is also the fascinating history of the witch finder general and the women who we are now trying to honour. The Mistley towers are nearby and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty too.”

Mrs Taylor continued to explain how Manningtree’s beach may only be a small one but it’s still “mighty.”

She added: “Improvements to the beach are absolutely vital. It might only be a little beach but for those who can’t travel anywhere it’s right on their doorstep and it’s a free day out.

“At the end of the day, children just want to make sandcastles, play in the mud or have a wade in the sea.

“It’s always been a bit of a community hub, we used to have a grandma who would organise beach games for the children.

“Exercise and fresh air are vital for our wellbeing and this amenity is priceless. It might be small but it certainly is mighty, just watch the sunset there and you will see for yourself.”
