A MEMORIAL to celebrate the life of a “community legend” is to take place at a football club this weekend.

Little Oakley Football Club will be hosting a celebration of Tim Gooch’s life at the Memorial Ground on Sunday.

Mr Gooch died suddenly at his home, on December 19 last year aged 62.

From 2pm, the club is inviting all his friends and people he knew to come and raise a glass to “the big fella”.

The club’s chairman, Michael Good, said: “Tim was at the very centre of everything good about our football club for many, many years.

“He was a larger than life character in more ways than one.

“He was a big man with an even bigger heart and will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a true Oakley club and community legend.”

The event will have live music and food and will raise money for Diabetes UK.

You can find the memorial ground in Harwich Road, Little Oakley.
