MORE thank £13,000 has been raised to pay for the funeral of a man whose remains were discovered in Harwich.

Essex Police launched an investigation on July 19, 2021, after the force received reports a human skull had been found on a site near Harwich Port.

DNA testing has revealed it is the remains of 38-year-old John Dick, who had been missing from the Bury St Edmunds area.

He was last seen in Harwich on November 30, with no additional confirmed sightings.

On September 10, further bones were discovered along the coastline, in Bathside Bay, which led to additional searches in the following days.

Those searches led to the discovery of more remains in nearby marshland.

In a statement, Mr Dick’s family paid tribute to their 'funny, kind, generous and trusting' father and husband.

Friends of family have now launched a fundraising page to pay for his funeral.

The page, which was set up on Monday, has already raised £13,185 surpassing its £8,000 target.

Organiser Simon Swann, said on the page: "I am asking for anything you can spare towards the cost of laying John to rest. The target amount is the average cost of a funeral today in the UK.

"However, if we exceed this amount, all additional funds will go to the family to help ease this tragic moments in their lives.

"I personally knew John and his wonderful family, and I can guarantee that all money raised will go directly to John’s wife for the funeral cost. This will allow them to give their loving husband, father, son, brother and friend the send off he deserves."
