It's been another very sad day in Southend and Leigh as the murder probe into the death of Sir David Amess enters its second day.

Early this morning Met Police bosses confirmed it was a suspected terror attack. The Southend Tory MP was fatally stabbed outside Befairs Methodist Church yesterday lunch time.

Members of national council of Iran have attended the scene to pay their respects.

They are holding images of the murdered MP Supporters are arriving holding photos of Sir David Amess at the scene Southend councillor and former mayor John Lamb said he dashed to the Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh when he heard MP Sir David Amess had been “stabbed multiple times.”

“David was there holding his surgery at that Methodist church and this person had gone there to join the surgery and when he got the chance and he went in to be seen by David, then he drew a knife and stabbed him,” he told the PA news agency.

 

By the time the councillor arrived, police cordons were up and he could not get into the church.
