A BUDDING young author is hoping to raise money for his school by selling his own books to fellow students.

Laurence Wynne-Jones, of Harwich, is only nine years old but is already putting pen to paper.

The little boy started working on his books during the first lockdown as an outlet for his imagination and artistic talents.

He is now hoping to raise funds for St Joseph’s Primary School in Dovercourt with two spooky pieces of work - Zombies! and Skeletons!.

Each book costs £1 and the young author has already managed to sell over 60 copies.

Laurence’s mother Lydia Wynne-Jones, 40, of Harwich said: “He is quite a creative little boy.

“With every birthday card he has ever written he has always drawn little sketches and cartoons.

“He has always had ideas for little stories and characters.”

Using DIY materials at home, Laurence poured his talent into six books, but only Zombies! and Skeletons! have been printed out ahead of Halloween due to their spooky nature.

Mrs Wynne-Jones added: “The original books he made at home out of cardboards and bits of paper.

“He created the actual physical books apart from handwriting them.

“Laurence would spend his break time at school writing his books and his friends started to ask for copies.

“So we thought ‘How could we mass produce them?’ so we printed them out.”

Each book Laurence creates takes him a couple of weeks to finish but the sense of fulfilment always keeps him going.

According to Mrs Wynne-Jones, art is very close to her son’s heart which is why he is always trying to improve his drawing skills.

She added: “He likes watching Art ninja and a lot of videos on YouTube where he learns different techniques.

“He is very quiet in many ways, but he really enjoys being able to sell books to the children at school.

“Sometimes his classmates would buy a book and come back for the other one because they enjoyed it.

“He is very proud.

“He is a very special boy!”
