Halloween is fast-approaching, and there are plenty of chances to celebrate in Essex as the day approaches.

Many of the events will be going on over the October half term, with most being appropriate for the whole family to attend.

As part of the Halloween season there will be a few events held at castles in the county to celebrate the occasion.

If you want to suitably scare yourself on Halloween we’ve put together the castle events being held in Essex this year.

An evening of Halloween fun at Colchester Castle

You can celebrate all things spooky with an evening of Halloween themed activities at Colchester Castle.

On offer is a trick or treat trail, spooky storytelling and a bunch of ghoulish games.

Creepy crafts are also available to be made, and at the end of the evening you can take home a goody bag full of treats.

The event is suitable for four year olds and over, and will take place from 6.30pm to 9pm on Saturday October 30.

Tickets costs £15 and can be booked here.

The Spider's Labyrinth at Mountfitchet Castle

Perhaps the scariest event of them all this month is the Spider's Labyrinth at Mountfitchet Castle.

Huge spiders have taken over the historic grounds and have made a terrifying labyrinth of webs and nests inside one of the buildings.

You'll have to make your way through the trail collecting stamps along the way before facing off against the terrible leaping Giant Tarantula.

Plus there's no need to book.

The event will be on from October 23-31.

A Magical Mishap Escape Room at Hedingham Castle

This immersive Escape room at Hedingham Castle will need you to help Headmistress Rewind, as she managed to trap herself in one of her own paintings after casting a spell.

Expect potions, cryptic notes and some unexpected puzzles as you try to figure out how to release the Headmistress.

This is recommended for children aged ten years and over, but it is fun for adults as well.

It will run from October 24-31 and you can book tickets here.
