HUNDREDS of families turned out to get hands around pumpkins of all sizes at a new pop-up patch.

The site off Hadleigh Road, in East Bergholt, made its debut at the weekend after village-based farmers George and James Harris, and James’s wife Laura wanted to try a new, family-orientated venture.

Eight varieties of pumpkins and squashes have been grown at the farm and are being hand harvested and transported to the patch nearby.

Laura said: “We really wanted to do something to encourage people to get out and about in the countryside and we wanted to do something positive after such a tricky few years for everyone. “We have been totally overwhelmed by all the support, well wishes and help we’ve been given by so many wonderful visitors.

“It has been a fantastic weekend and we have absolutely loved seeing so many people out in the sunshine having fun. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone that has visited and supported us in this new venture and we look forward to meeting more people over the next couple of weeks.”

The patch is free to enter and will be open from Friday to Sunday, October 31, from 10am to 4pm.

There is no need to pre-book and parking is free.
