A FIREWORK extravaganza will be once again illuminating the skies above Harwich Quay this New Year's Eve.

After a year of hiatus due to the pandemic, Harwich Quay Fireworks Committee is back with a bang.

The epic display, which is organised by hard-working volunteers , usually attracts between 5,000 and 6,000 spectators who attend to ring in the new year.

To give audiences a memorable experience, local organisations have also joined forces to support the extravaganza.

Trinity House has given permission for the organisers to use its pier as a firing base, while the Harwich Haven Authority will allow the use of the Ha’Penny Pier.

A spokesman for the event said: "Although ‘free to view,’ there are other costs involved besides that of the pyrotechnics and so donations are vital to keep the event alive.

"Harwich Town Council also support the event and the organisers voluntarily give their time without expense.

"The show has proved popular with increasing numbers attending each year, to the benefit of the Town.

"A family oriented event, we invite you to come and enjoy the magnificent display, whilst observing social distancing and other COVID regulations."

Donations could be made at Government House, St Helens Green, Harwich or by street collection at the time.
