A PRIMARY school has given a platform to local sports talents with an annual tournament.

The Chase Lane Primary School in Dovercourt hosted the annual Harwich Primary Schools hockey tournament, with seven teams entering the competition.

Pupils from Two Village in Ramsey, All Saints in Great Oakley, Spring Meadow in Dovercourt and St Mary's in Ardleigh were all represented.

The highly-competitive event saw a close semi-final between Chase Lane and All Saints and Spring Meadow against St Mary's.

Lee Barrett, who is the sports instructor at Chase Lane Primary, said: "The standard was great and all of the children representing their schools developed a greater skill level with each and every game they played, as they all seemed to grow in confidence throughout the tournament.

"The final was narrowly won by Great Oakley Primary school who beat Spring Meadow in a closely fought final.

"Congratulations to Great Oakley Primary School on being crowned champions.

"Well done to all of the children who represented their schools fantastically well."

Back in March, Chase Lane took part in the Tendring Primary School Finals and its year 5 and 6 indoors athletics team came away with the top prize.

The pupils performed a variety of activities from long jumps and triple jumps to chest push and running.
