A CULTURAL venue will be commemorating 40 years of the Falklands War in a spring exhibition.
A special display is available at the Harwich Museum in Main Road, where residents can enjoy a display of St Edmund’s serving history.
The ship was completed in late 1974 for Sealink’s traditional two-class service between Harwich and the Hook of Holland.
It was one of the many British merchant ships to be chartered by the Ministry of Defence in May 1982 for use in the Falkland Islands Task Force.
What makes this even a prouder memory for Harwich is that many members of the crew were actually local to the Harwich area.
To commemorate this key event in history, the Harwich museum exhibition reflects the ship’s time at the ministry as well as its later use until scrapped back in 2009.
A spokesman for the Harwich Museum said: “If any former local crew members would like to get together at the museum to view the display, we would like to suggest the weekend of the 14/15 May from midday on both days, where you will also be able to enjoy the facilities of our popular tea room.”
