TALENTED children have showcased their skills in a special football tournament.

The final of the 71st Fisherman's Cup Final saw pupils from Chase Lane Primary up against Mayflower Primary School at the Royal Oak ground, home of Harwich and Parkeston Football Club.

Chase Lane pupils won the trophy, which was first contested in 1951, for the eighteenth time with a 2-0 victory.

Elkan Baggott, who is an Ipswich Town FC first team player, was a special guest at the event and presented the trophies.

Alongside Nigel Spencer, Elkan shared his experiences of his youth career and offered the children advice about football.

Mr Barrett said: “Elkan then presented the runners up shield to Harry Stanford, captain of Mayflower, the Fisherman's Cup to Josh Mobbs, captain of Chase Lane, and the Man of the Match award to Daniel Paice of Chase Lane.

“The whole event was a great occasion and such a closely fought game that will never be forgotten by these young footballers.”

“Many thanks to Colin Young for refereeing once again and Tony Armstrong of Harwich Parkeston of Football Club for hosting and for supporting the local schools football programme,” he added.
