AN historic venue will be marking the Queen’s jubilee in style.

The Electric Palace cinema will be taking part in the Essex Book Festival jubilee programme, which will see a number of events to celebrate the monarch's reign.

To mark the occasion, visitors will be able to enjoy a special performance at the cinema on June 1 by award-wining poet and novelist Blake Morrison.

Blake will be reading from his collection of poems, Shingle Street, which is an exploration of the under-threat North Sea coastline and our lives and values in a swiftly changing world.

During the event, visitors will also be able to catch an appearance from East Anglia’s best-loved Ceilidh groups, namely The Hosepipe Band.

The organisers of Essex Book Festival said: “We can’t think of a better place to ‘set sail’ for the month of June than with Blake and The Hosepipe Band in the magical Electric Palace Cinema, one of the UK’s oldest of its kind.”

The event will take place at 7pm on June 1. Tickets are from £10.
