FOUR gardens are set to open in Harwich to raise money for a national scheme.

The gardens will open as a group for the National Garden Scheme and each showcases a different gardening style.

In Kings Head street, the garden can be found at the back of what was the Ebenezer Chapel built by the Methodists in 1820 and more recently used as a chandlery but converted into a house in 2017.

A spokesman for the National Garden Scheme said: “The garden was started in 2018 and although a work in progress already has shrubs, perennials and some vegetables

“In St Helen’s Green, just 100m from the sea, is a small town garden with an abundance of dahlias and hydrangeas mixed with perennials.

“A long narrow walled courtyard but manages to include a mass of shrubs, climbers, perennials and vegetables as well as architectural features including an Elizabethan window with original glass is in Church street.

“Quayside Court was originally a Victorian hotel and, unusually, boasts a sunken garden featuring a pond, vegetable patch, roses and climbers.”

Teas, coffees, cakes and light refreshments will be available all day at 8 St. Helen’s Green. There is a car park in Wellington Road and street parking is also available.

One admission price of £5 for adults (children free) allows entry to all the gardens on Sunday, July 17 between 10.30am - 4pm.
