YOUNG bookworms were treated to a special visit from a first-time children’s author for what was a “fantastic day full of rhyming, historical facts and reading".

Nate Wrey, who is the mastermind behind Mooge – The Prehistoric Genius, stopped by  at Mayflower Primary School, in Main Road, Dovercourt.

He led an engaging assembly as aspiring wide-eyed would-be writers intently listened to him share some of the chapters from his new book.

Students then spent the day taking part in a variety of activities inspired by the contents of the story before Nate sold and signed copies of his book.

Alexandra Larue, curriculum and Key Stage 2 phase leader at Mayflower Primary School, said: “We were extremely excited about welcoming Nate to the school.

“One class in the school helped him by suggesting vocabulary and ideas for the book that he launched on the day.

“It was a fantastic day full of rhyming, historical facts and reading.”

In a show of appreciation, Nate has since sent a letter to the school thanking students for their warm welcome.

He said: “As a first-time children’s author, I am still finding my way, but I received great confidence from the reception the children gave my book and their general interest in the subject matter and additional learning exercises undertaken.”
