A REMOVALS firm has unveiled plans to replace one of its buildings which is “no longer fit for purpose”.

R&D Schofields, which is based at the Foxash Estate in Harwich Road, Lawford, wants to replace one of its commercial buildings.

The firm moved to the estate in 2012 and in the plans says its wants to improve “current storage facilities” offered to customers.

The report added the older building now requires regular repairs and maintenance.

It said: “The proposal is for a replacement building to create a modern purpose-built industry standard building.

“The current building is no longer fit for purpose and the size now represents a constraint on the capability of the removal business to expand.

“The replacement building will improve the aesthetics of the site and the efficiency of the building in terms of maintaining a reasonable temperature range and prevention of humidity and mould.

“As a result the building will provide a dry, secure and clean environment for people to store belongings without the worry of them being damaged thought mould or damp.”

The new building will be 18.2m by 30.5m.

The firm was established in 1919 in Langham, Boxted and Colchester with a horse drawn carriage.

Tendring Council will have the final say on the plans.
