A PORT authority has apologised to residents in advance for noise that will be caused by works to replace pontoons damaged by winter storms.

Harwich Haven Authority is having a busy start to 2023 as it carries out essential pile replacement works to pontoons in Ha’penny Pier.

The works are being done due to damage caused to the piles following last winter’s storms.

A spokeswoman for the authority said: “The piles will be inserted using a heavy-duty hammer which will cause some noise disruption.

"However we will keep any noise to the very minimum.

“The hammer will be in operation after 3pm until approximately 4pm on Thursday, January 12, and Friday, January 13.

“In line with health and safety requirements between these time periods, there will be no access to Ha’penny pier.”

Visiting vessels have been advised that departures from the pontoons will be restricted until the work is completed on approximately Friday, January 20.
