FESTIVAL organisers are inviting residents to a special event celebrating the coronation of King Charles III.
To celebrate the momentous occasion Harwich International Shanty Festival is hosting a programme of celebratory events around the town entitled Coronation Capers.
There will be traditional folk music, sea shanties, dancing and song commencing with May songs and Maypole Dancing at 1.30pm on Harwich Green.
A spokeswoman for the festival said: “The entertainment continues around our old town, calling at the Alma, New Bell, Globe and Stingray, finishing at 5.00pm with a grand finale on the Ha’penny Pier.
“The groups taking part are the Black Deep Shanty Crew, Leading Lights Morris, Harwich Sing Sub Nexgen, Ha’penny Crew and a local Jazz Duo.
“The event is sponsored by the Harwich Haven Authority.”
Coronation Capers will take place on Sunday, May 7, and is just part of the list of events Harwich International Shanty Festival organisers are hosting leading up to October’s event.
The festival will host a shanty marathon and a quiz night alongside coronation capers to keep fans enthused.
