VOLUNTEERS have started renovating a shelter by a picturesque riverside.

The Rotary Club of Manningtree Stour Valley has begun renovations of a shelter overlooking the Walls in Mistey.

The group of volunteers expect it will take several days to repaint the shaded benches, which are believed were first built in 1933 by public subscription and then re-built in the 1950s again by public donation.

A spokesman from Manningtree Rotary Club said: "We apologise for the inconvenience to those who use the shelter but once finished it will be as good as new.

"We don't want to lose this useful and historic part of our heritage in Mistley and Manningtree."

The Rotary Club is also looking to find images from the 30s and 50s to compare the results. Harwich and Manningtree Standard: Historical - The Rotary Club of Manningtree Stour Valley has begun renovations of a shelter overlooking the riverside at the Walls in MisteyHistorical - The Rotary Club of Manningtree Stour Valley has begun renovations of a shelter overlooking the riverside at the Walls in Mistey (Image: The Rotary Club of Manningtree Stour Valley)
