SEASONAL worker homes could be transformed into holiday accommodation over the summer months, if plans are aapproved.

Brook Farm in Great Oakley has changed its agricultural operations from growing fruit to farming olive groves, orchards and forestry management.

The farm is located in Great Oakley, surrounded by farmland and was founded as a family business in 1948 and has seen three generations taking care of it and employs ten regular staff.

With the change, the seasonal workers are now needed between October and March, leaving their housing empty over the summer months.

The eight ‘pods’ were constructed by the company Modular Group and have been occupied during harvest season since their stationing in 2020.

Half of the buildings are equipped with one bedroom, the other half with two.

Pete Thompsons, managing director of the farm, said: “With the changes in our farming business our busiest time of year is now the autumn and winter months and we are quieter in summer.

“We hope to use the accommodation for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers to come and stay on the farm and to be able to enjoy the habitat restoration and conservation work we are doing.”

A decision will be made by Tendring Council.
