WORK has begun in Lawford on a £3.25 million scheme which will create 13 single-storey senior living homes.

Rose Builders based in Riverside House, Lawford, was appointed by Tendring Council who have allocated £3.25 million for the Honeycroft development which will be built to “top environmental standards”.

The previous sheltered housing scheme on the site was closed by the council in 2018 before being demolished in 2018.

Preparatory site works began last year and as well as housing, the new site will also have a small community building, landscaping, and car parking.

Peter Kotz, the council's assets, said: “I am pleased with the appointment of Rose, who have a brilliant track record and are a well-established local firm.

“This development is an innovative scheme which will help provide homes for people within our district on a brownfield site.”

Justyn French, commercial director for housing for Rose, said the construction company were “excited” to work with the council.

He said: “The proposed development will provide specialist accessible properties that reflect the past use of the site and addressing the pressing housing demand in the district.”

The single-story senior living homes will be designed to the former principles of the “former lifetime homes” meaning residents can remain in the community as their physical needs change.

While carbon reduction, energy-saving measures, and energy-efficiency standard will ensure the development meets high environmental standards.
