YOUNGSTERS enjoyed an exciting day meeting their idols from the fire service.

Early years foundation stage pupils at Tollesbury School got the chance to meet firefighters, police officers and doctors in recent lessons focusing on ‘people who help us’.

Firefighters from Tollesbury fire station said they were “lucky” to be invited to the school.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “The children were all fantastically behaved and asked lots of very good questions.

“They also had the chance to look around the fire appliance and of course see the blue lights.

“Interacting and supporting our communities is another important part of our role.”

Early years teacher at Tollesbury School Natalie Faux said: “This term we have been learning about our community and 'people who help us'.

“We have had a visit from a doctor, members from the Maldon police force and firefighters from Tollesbury fire station.

“We have learnt about their important role and asked lots of questions to find out more.

"The children were fascinated by their equipment, uniforms and vehicles.

“We have lots of children now aspiring to be doctors, police officers and fire fighters.”
