MANNINGTREE’S Rotary Club has raised £8000 to give to local groups from its collections.

Members of Manningtree Stour Rotary Club were joined by representatives of ten of the local charities and community groups at The Crown Hotel in Manningtree in last week, to distribute the proceeds of the club's Christmas collections.

Manningtree Stour Rotary Club president Terry Dean said: “The donations evening was made possible by the generosity of local people who supported our Christmas events.

“A big thank you to everyone who supported us over the festive period."

The donations were also made possible due to the generosity of the residents when the club toured the area with Father Christmas during December with the ‘Manningtree Rotary Sleigh’.

Donations were distributed to 21 worthy causes, with Mr Dean saying the organisation was particularly pleased to be supporting the Scouts and Guides with their work with families this year.

Last year’s donations helped clean up the footpaths along Cox’s Hill, as well as contributing to the provision of a defibrillator on Summers Park and the installation of a bench on Cox’s Hill.

Rotary club members work together to support local and international charities as well as enjoying social events provided throughout the Rotary year.
