A MAN walking from Wales to Amsterdam in honour of his two friends who died will arrive in Harwich tomorrow as part of his fundraising challenge.

Dan Simms, from South Wales, is travelling by foot to Amsterdam and will finish the British portion of his journey in Harwich.

Dan started his walking journey at Caldicot Castle on February, 24 – a day after his 24th birthday - following the deaths of his friends Rory Prettyjohns and Tom Baxter.

He is expected to arrive in Harwich sometime during the afternoon and will take the 11pm ferry to the Hook of Holland before walking the final leg to Amsterdam – a total distance of 248.5 miles.

Dan is raising money for charity Andy's Man Club and for the families of his friends.

He is using his journey to further encourage men and people to talk about mental health and suicide.

New data released in 2024 showed from 2019 to 2022 the suicide rate in Tendring was 11.3 deaths per 100,000 people, while the rate in England was 10.3 and the UK 11.2.
