A partially built suburban street corner lighting shop can be completed.

Burnley Council has granted planning permission for the retail unit on the corner of Angle Street and North Street in Duke Bar to be finished.

Owner Mr J Kataria had previously been given approval for the scheme but had failed to start construction within the permitted three-year timespan.

Now his renewed application has been given the go-ahead for the final works.

A supporting statement submitted with the new application said: "Angle Street is located in the Duke Bar area of Burnley town at the rear of Colne Road and adjoining North Street and Hebrew Road.

"The plot of land is located adjacent to Number 7 Angle Street.

"The plot of land was owned by Burnley Council who had deemed it surplus to requirements and offered it for sale.

"The client purchased the land and obtained planning approval which had lapsed before construction started.

"Due to the construction starting after the three years, the development has been deemed to be unlawful.

"Due to this, a new application has been requested.

"The surrounding area is of mixed use. Numbers 7 to 25 Angle Street are residential, the opposite side is a mosque with Rawdhatel Uloom School adjacent to it.

"The proposal is to erect a two-storey retail unit constructed out of similar materials and of similar scale to the adjoining terraced houses.

"The building would be detached from 7 Angle Street.

"It is proposed that the new building will be constructed out of artificial stone to the main elevations (North Street and Angle Street elevations) and rendered elevations to the less prominent elevations, a slate grey concrete tiles roof to blend in with the surrounding residential properties.

"The main entrance is facing North Street with the ‘shop windows' facing North Street and Angle Street."
