A FULLY equipped community woodwork group in Harwich is busy creating a extension to a community cafe so it can provide meals and cooking skills to locals.
Harwich Cultural and Community Projects (HCCP) – which oversees the Harwich Ukraine Support Project – has launched a workshop in collaboration with the Essex Shed network, a non-profit group which supports ‘sheds’ and other social clubs.
The first of the 'recruitment' event days took place on April 17 and the group met again on May 9 to talk further about the direction of their project with eight people expressing interest.

The group is now focused on restoring a Landau – a four-wheeled luxury carriage – and constructing a new deck as an extension to the charity’s community café.
On Saturday June 15 from 10am-2pm the group will be holding a charity boot and table sale to raise money for the community kitchen which will be developed with ‘Food for Thought’ – a business which gives affordable meals to the community.

Once the extension is established, the HCCP facility will provide meals to vulnerable people in the town and be a resource for teaching basic cooking skills to people in the community such as the recently bereaved and young parents.
