HUNDREDS of people had their cardiac health checked at a weekend screening at the Harwich and Parkeston Football Club in memory of Tom Petley.

Tom Petley died in his sleep on April 21, 2022, from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) – where someone dies from a cardiac arrest with no obvious cause being found.

The screening weekend was carried out by the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, which has supported Tom's family since his death.

Mum Helen said: "It was lovely to see so many people book in and attend the event.

“Two hundred people aged between 14 and 35 turned out across two days with a few people being referred on for further check-ups.

"If this weekend helps one person and their family and stops them going through what we have, then it makes it all worthwhile.”

She added: “We miss Tom every day.

“Thank you to Tony Armstrong and Harwich and Parkeston Football Club for allowing us to host this event

" We plan to complete another day’s screening next year, and this can only be possible by raising the money.”

Cardiac Risk in the Young holds screenings all over the country, saving the lives of young people.
