A FORMER army musician is holding a quiz night ahead of the London Marathon to raise money for charity.
Marie Snell, 34, who is now the assistant clerk at Harwich Town Council, is running the London Marathon in April for the Royal British Legion.
She is working hard to get the £2,000 sponsorship needed to take part and is holding a fundraising quiz night at Harwich’s Park Pavilion this Saturday.
Marie said: “Raising the required £2,000 is as big a test as the training for the marathon itself and I was delighted when the Harwich Society’s quiz team agreed to run a quiz night to help towards raising the money.
“Anyone who has attended one of their monthly quizzes will know what a good night out they are and will hopefully come along to take part.”
Marie is raising money for the Royal British Legion because husband Matt, 44, is still a serving army musician.
She said the Park Pavilion was the “obvious place” to hold the quiz as the Harwich branch of the Royal British Legion is based there.
Legion chairman Andy Wells said: “We were very pleased to learn that Marie is to run the London Marathon on behalf of the British Legion and we will do all that we can to support her.
“Raising the required £2,000 is no easy task so we would ask anyone who enjoys a good quiz to join us on the night to put as much money in the pot as possible.”
Colin Perry, of the Harwich Society quiz team, which runs monthly quiz nights on behalf of the society and other good causes, said: “The only running that we do is to the bar when last orders are called, but we are looking forward to running the quiz on Marie’s behalf.
“It will certainly be a good laugh and we are hoping for a good turn-out for a very good cause.”
The quiz will begin at 8pm and is for teams of up to eight people, at £2 per head.
There is no need to book a table in advance and raffle prizes are welcome.
