PLANS to add parking restrictions to a busy road will go ahead despite residents' concerns.

Yellow lines set to be painted on to Colchester Road, in Lawford, extend too far and remove valuable parking spaces, it is claimed.

But at Lawford’s parish council meeting on Monday night, it was decided that concerns have been voiced too late and now the work must push ahead or be scrapped all together.

A vote opted in favour of the plans, which aim to reduce narrow driving conditions and allow better access for buses.

Residents had registered their disapproval in a second public consultation carried out by Carlo and Valerie Guglielmi, Lawford and Tendring councillors.

They recieved 22 letters from residents concerned about plans to run lines infront of a stretch of houses, but having no parking alternative.

Mrs Gugliemi said that people need to take a stand earlier in the planning process if they want to make changes.

“People seemed to close there eyes and hoped it wouldn’t affect them and now that they can look at the plans and see it affects their houses and their street,” she said.

“Residents came to us and asked for a solution and the parish pushed for action and this is what Essex County Council have come up with.”

A residents’ parking area is available along the road but is under-used due to a fear of potential vandalism.

Work will continue as agreed with potential amendments made at a later date.
