YOUNG police detectives hunted around Harwich library at the weekend searching for clues to find a pirate’s treasure chest of books.
The Uncovering Detectives event, marking the start of the half-term holiday, introduced children to areas of the library other than the young person’s section.
Scooby Doo was on hand to help the children solve clues and the Essex Police museum provided uniforms for the children to try on, as well as truncheons, handcuffs and other kit.
The clues were all based on detective books such as Nancy Drew and Tintin, and children aged between three and 12 took part.
Around 50 children at the Harwich event got to make their own police ID.
Luke Taylor, deputy library supervisor at Harwich Library, said: “It was a brilliant day, really good, and we had a lot family groups which was nice.
“The quizzes and activity sheets were also popular.
“Everyone enjoyed themselves, children, parents and staff alike.
“We got a few new members, and made people in the community more aware what their library has to offer.”
