A HISTORIC lightship has finally made its way to its new Harwich home.

The LV18, owned by the Pharos Trust, arrived at the Ha’Penny Pier on Thursday afternoon after almost two years of work making it into a tourist attraction.

The last manned lightvessel will now be opened to visitors to take a tour below her decks.

The project was backed by Tendring Council as part of its plans to regenerate Harwich’s quayside.

Neil Stock, leader of Tendring Council, said the arrival of the ship had been well worth waiting for.

“I am delighted that the LV18 is in now place in the harbour and will soon be open to the public to view,” he said.

“It will be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike and is part of the Council’s aspirations and intentions to bring about improvements to Harwich and boost its economy.”
