A POORLY duck is now on the road to recovery after being rescued from a pond by a charity worker and a lifeboat crew member.
Wonderful Wings, a bird rescue and rehoming service in Harwich, was made aware of a stranded aquatic bird in need of assistance last Wednesday.
Initially it was believed the duck was suffering with a leg injury, but it has since transpired it had a neurological issue.
The retrieval mission successfully saw the bird extracted from Coxs Pond by one of the organisation’s animal experts and a worker from Harwich lifeboat station.
Thanks to their efforts, Shirley the duck is now being treated with medication and it is hoped she will soon be returned to her natural habitat.
A spokesman for Wonderful Wings said: “We are hoping he makes a full recovery, so he is able to go back to the pond to join his mates.
“We want to do a massive shout out to Neal from the RNLI who came to assist us in containing him by wading in the pond! Thank you so much, you really are amazing.”
