A CYCLIST has been rescued after falling 25m down a cliff on the North Yorkshire coast.
HM Coastguard, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, North Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called to the cliff side at Scarborough at about 11am on Wednesday, close to the Humber Coastguard Operations Centre.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: "The cyclist is believed to have taken the serious tumble into a wooded area after trying to retrieve some of his belongings that had fallen over a railing.
"Scarborough and Filey Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Humberside Coastguard search and rescue helicopter were sent to the scene, along with the other emergency services to try and help extract the man to safety. After a lengthy and difficult operation to reach the injured man, he was winched onboard the Coastguard helicopter, transferred into the care of the Heli Med on scene and flown to Scarborough Hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery."
