LAND earmarked for Tesco superstores are set to be put up for sale, it has been revealed.
Tesco own both the land in Manningtree and Walton and were looking to build new stores before both schemes were axed due to financial constraints.
Now the company has told Tendring Council it is looking to bring forward alternative development of the sites as soon as possible.
Senior Officers at the Council held a teleconference with Tesco to find out their intentions.
Council leader Mick Page said it was a very open and frank discussion about the future of the land.
“We as a council want to see those sites developed – rather than stand empty for a long period of time – and Tesco are in agreement on that,” he said.
The new superstores in Station Road, Manningtree, and on the Martello Caravan Park, Walton, were two of 49 developments around the country axed by Tesco earlier this month.
It is thought the sites will go on the market within the next few months.
