MORE than 400 cyclists will take part in next month’s Tour de Tendring – but there is still time to sign up.

Final preparations are under way for the popular event, which heads off from Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles in Low Road on May 17 before snaking through the district and finishing at the same venue.

There are three distances to suit all aspirations starting with six miles, increasing to 20 miles and 60 miles.

The two longer distances start between 8.30am and 9.30am, while those doing six miles begin between 9.30am and 10.30am.

The event is organised by Tendring Council and is one of the premier events on the council’s calendar.

Communications manager Nigel Brown is expecting more than 1,000 riders to saddle up for the journey.

He said: “There is always a big turn-up on the day itself – especially if the weather is fine – and we are on a par with previous years, with around 430 people already committed to taking part."
