PLANS for nine new homes have been tentatively backed by councillors.
Affinity Water Limited has submitted plans for two detached houses and seven bungalows on land off Ramsey Road in Dovercourt.
Each of the new properties would have separate garages and a new access road would also be built.
Harwich Town Councillors were concerned about access onto Ramsey Road but backed the layout of the homes.
Councillor Jo Henderson said: “I think a new access road could address the issue.
“I like there is a mix of bungalows because there are a great shortage of them in Harwich.”
Councillors voted to support the application but raise concerns about access onto the adjoining major road.
Tendring Council has the final say on the plans.
