A SCHEME to build four new bungalows on farmland in Great Oakley has been rejected.
Cooper Bros Ltd put forward the plans for land to the north of Stones Green Road.
The outline application was refused by Tendring Council as the site is outside the development boundary and failed two of the three necessary criteria for being sustainable.
Although it is economically sustainable, the council turned it down on social and environmental grounds.
A council spokesman said: “The proposed development is considered to be unsustainable due to the social and environmental harm which is not outweighed by the economic benefits of four bungalows.”
Great Oakley Parish Council said it had previously supported homes on the site through the draft Local Plan process, but the location is not now included in the current preferred options document.
Tendring Council also received five letters of objection from residents.
