A MOTORIST was wrongly fined for visiting a car park twice in the same day.

Robert Turnbull made two brief visits to the Tollgate Retail Park in Stanway car park to drop off and collect his daughter.

Cameras clocked his vehicle entering the car park at 7am for one visit and leaving at 3.10pm for the other.

In the meantime he’d left the car park entirely and spent the day in Suffolk.

Mr Turnbull, of Stanway, received a penalty notice for staying at the car park for more than eight hours.

He appealed against the ticket which was issued to him by CP Plus, which manages the car park.

He was threatened with a £50 fine to pay within 14 days.

Mr Turnbull, 55, said: “I got a ticket for an eight-hour ‘overstay’.

“It is obviously a technical fault but potentially it could happen to shoppers, it’s such a ludicrous situation.”

After the Gazette contacted CP Plus, a spokesman said the ticket had since been rescinded due it being issued following a “technical issue”.

He confirmed the firm had not received any other similar complaints.
