SEVERAL HONOURS have been handed out at an awards ceremony for lifeboat volunteers.

Burnham RNLI hosted the event at the Swallowtail restaurant where RNLI chairman Stuart Popham handed out awards to dedicated supporters.

Senior helm Tony Lacey was recognised for 30 years of service to the Burnham station.

Mr Lacey said: “It was with great honour that the chairman of the RNLI presented me with my 30-year service award.

“I wish to thank all colleagues in Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI past and present for their support, hard work and dedication to the RNLI.’’

Former operations manager Sir Richard Rycroft said he felt “truly honoured” to be recognised for his “invaluable service to the crew, station and volunteers”.

Reverend Lionel Webber also received an award for his “dedicated support and invaluable contribution” to Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI.

He said: “I was thrilled and honoured to receive this award.

“Fifty years ago, when I was vicar of Port Talbot, I joined the lifeboat crew and my time as a serving member is among the most important of my life.

“Now, to be chaplain of the Burnham station is the icing on the cake.”
